Pumpkin is a great word!

A bit late on this post, but last weekend we took a trip over to Linvilla Orchardsafter doing a 5k in Wallingford with Grandmom and Popper (where Popper won an award for coming in first place in his age group, way to go Popper!) It was a beautiful day and we got to take some nice pictures over at the Pumpkin Patch! Madeline was all eyes of course and couldn’t take her eyes off of the gigantic scarecrow they have there, but most of all, enjoyed pointing to all pumpkins and saying the word over and over and over again. She will now point to our pumpkins, cats, and even her Daddy and say Pumpkin. What a riot. All in all it was a great day and we hope you enjoy the new pictures!

First Steps!!!

Steve and I have been walking with Madeline for some time now and she loves to just hold on to our hands and walk all over the house. Steve also plays “the standing game” with her where he lets go and sees how long she can stand on her own till she falls down, and she adores it! She gives the biggest belly laughs from “the standing game”.

So tonight we decided to let go while she was walking and see what would happen, (we do this all time too, but Mads usually falls right down) and low and behold, our little munchkin was taking steps towards us by herself and was VERY proud of her accomplishment, she was clapping right along with Steve and I. Of course she is taking no more than 5 or 6 steps at time, but as they say, practice makes perfect!

Now the fun really starts, right?

We’ll make sure to get video up once Madeline has honed her new skill a little more.

Bye for now.

9 Month Stats!

On Tuesday, Madeline had her 9 month check up.

She now weighs 21 pounds 5 oz, (90th %tile) and is 28 1/2 inches long (75th %tile). She is a tremendous crawler and climber! She is getting more and more daring each day with climbing steps, and pulling herself up to stand! Madeline is also waving bye-bye/hello, clapping her hands, and raising her arms up in the air to say “SO BIG!”

She also has two new top teeth that have come through. She is doing really great, is so much fun to be around, even though she’s keeping Mommy and Daddy on their toes, it’s great to see her so mobile!!! Looks like we’ll be heading to Stride-Rite before we know it :)

vacation all i ever wanted!

madeline says “HELLO!” from sunny FLA! we’re currently in the middle of our first family vacation in florida. my uncle joe lives down here, and grandmom and popper are down here for the week, so we’re here too! the weather has been really nice (not too hot!) and we’ve been having some fun in the pool and at the beach.

maddie took her first flight down here on wednesday and she was just great (it helped that the flight was barely 2 hours). she likes the pool, she’s still not so sure about the gulf yet, but i think she’s coming around. i am posting some pictures from our first few days, there will be more to follow as well as some video of maddie’s first time in the gulf! we only have 2 more days left until we fly back north!

Cutting Teeth

Madeline has cut her first two teeth! Her first two teeth (bottom) have popped through seemingly overnight!

There have been quite a few clues, such as: she’s been chewing on everything for the last week or so and not sleeping as soundly the last few nights. Also, today and yesterday, her nose has been running and her appetite seems to have taken a nosedive. Who knows if all of this is attributed to her new pearly whites or not, but we sure are excited!

So there you have it, our little girl has teeth. Another major milestone accomplished.

6 Month Stats!!!

Today Madeline went to the Doc’s for her 6 month check up! She did awesome. She let out a tiny little whimper that lasted for maybe 20 seconds after getting those nasty shots
and that was it!

Her Doctor is very happy with her progress and so are we. Steve and I are so blessed to have such a happy (she always has a smile on her face) and healthy little girl (not to mention pretty darn cute as well).

Here are Madeline’s stats:

17 pounds, 10 ounces = 88th percentile

26 1/2 inches = 75th percentile

Also, she has gotten the green light from her Doctors to start drinking some JUICE (diluted of course) every so often, and we can start her on the 2nd stage foods now which means MEAT! After she’s mastered all of that she can move on to teething foods and lastly, finger foods.

So many changes! It’s hard to believe that half of a year is over already, where did it go?

welcome to the world!

madeline would like to say:

“welcome to the world, benjamin brian! if you need any tips on driving your parents crazy, send me an e-mail! i’m an old pro at it!”

our friends brian and aimee welcomed their little bundle on tuesday, april 24th!

congrats guys! let the games begin!!!

First Day Back to Work.

Well, yesterday was my first day back to work. I’m not going to lie, it was tough. I dropped Madeline off at my parents’ house (Pop-Pop has the morning shift with Maddie and Nonni has afternoons with her, we are blessed to have such a great situation, thanks Mom and Dad!) and had a hard time saying goodbye (this means I cried a little), but I managed to get myself out of their house, and on my way to work I cried a little more.

Once I got to work things got easier and I managed to hold out till 12 noon to check in with how my little button was doing! Pop-Pop said she had been a total angel of course, and that things were going great.

Today was even a bit easier than yesterday, so here’s to progress!!!

Trials and Tribulations of Motherhood, Chapter One.

Hi everyone, it’s been awhile since I have posted and I’m back to share my first Chapter of the Trials of Motherhood :)

Around the holidays I noticed a small, hard lump in my right breast, and chalked it up to being a plugged milk duct. I told myself I’d call the Doctor if it didn’t go away in a week or two, meanwhile I read and tried everything under the sun to get it unclogged.

Two weeks later there was no change and I noticed that the lump had gotten a little bigger, time to talk to the Doctor! The Doctor examined me and said she definitely thought the lump was brought on by nursing and she would like to have me get an ultrasound just to be sure there was nothing to be worried about.

I set up the ultrasound for the following week. Between the day my Doctor examined me and the day of the ultrasound things started progressively getting worse for me, the lump tripled in size and started to get red. It was also starting to get very painful as well.

I called my Doc again the morning of the day I was to get my ultrasound done, and they rushed me in to examine me once more and said it looked like a definite infection, they sent me on my way to get my ultrasound done with some antibiotics and said they’d be in touch depending on what the results of the sonogram looked like.

The ultrasound showed that there was an abscess, the tech sent in the Doctor to speak to me and she urged me to get seen by a surgeon as she felt that the abscess might be too big for the antibiotics to do the trick. She said she’d be in touch with my OB/GYN and they’d be in touch with me and to give me a name of surgeon I could call. On my way home from the Medical Imaging place I got a call from my OB’s office and they gave me the name and number of a surgeon and I gave him a call right away. He told me to come in right away and he suggested that I get the abscess drained first thing the next day.

The pain got much more severe just from the time I saw the surgeon to the next morning. I ended up calling the surgeon at 4 a.m. that morning in tears begging him to let me take something for the pain (nothing to eat or drink from midnight to surgery due to the anesthesia) and he said I could take some Tylenol which really did not help much but took the edge off a little so I could try to get some sleep.

Needless to say by the next morning I was in agony. All I could do was cry. The very kind hospital staff rushed to get me a bed asap, so I could get pain medication via IV. The pain was so bad that whatever they were giving me for the pain was not working. After three attempts at upping the dosage they finally gave me Valium, and finally I got some much needed relief.

When I woke up I was in recovery (I do not remember being wheeled down to the OR at all!) and feeling much, much better. The only downside is that I am no longer able to nurse Madeline, which was very disappointing, but necessary in order for me to heal properly.

I would like to give my Dad special thanks for taking me to the hospital that day, for holding my hand and wiping away my tears and staying calm for me, I couldn’t have asked for better support! I love you Dad. You’re the best :)

Maddie and I are both doing fine and she’s adjusted just fine to her “bottle time”. Here’s to hoping that the next time I post it will about happier moments!

First Trip to the Doctor’s Office.

Today was Madeline’s first trip to the Doctor. I am very happy to say that she has gained 8 ounces and is measuring half an inch taller since we left the hospital last week.

Doctor DiMaggio says everything looks terrific and she is extremely pleased with Maddie’s weight gain, which is considered above average!

Needless to say, Madeline was not happy about being woken and then stripped down to her diaper, but as soon as the exam was done and she was dressed, she was happy as a clam again!
